Add 3 to the Kingdom, please!

J writes:

“I asked that you pray for R, the sick Muslim girl and her family to find Jesus.  We knew it would require a miraculous move of God to bring them out of darkness and into the light.  Last week, two of my friends met with this couple and their oldest daughter. At the conclusion of the meeting all three prayed to receive Jesus as personal Lord and Savior! I am still in shock over this…Wow, He is amazing!”

Please pray now that R would have the desire to do the same as she continues to recover!

Pray for the three new believers to grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and how they are to walk with him.

Durban, South Africa

Durban, South Africa

W and S are meeting with a young couple every Wednesday evening for discipleship and encouragement.  M (the husband) is a believer from a Muslim background and C (his wife) has been a believer for several years and is a youth leader in her church.  M has had difficulty in finding a job since his decision to follow Christ has become known among his family and friends.  Pray that he would find steady employment and that he would also have opportunities and the courage to share his faith, especially with Muslims.

Continue to pray for Umhlanga Baptist Church as they have stepped out on faith by having 2 worship services.  Pray against negativity.  Pray for God to bring in the people to worship and seekers wanting to know Him.  Two services mean that many will have to do “double duty”.  Pray that they would not grow weary but would continue to be excited.

Durban is a large port city, thus many ships lie off the coast with men aboard from countries all around the world.  Paul has a ship ministry in which a small boat is taken out and he is able to send items up on the ships. There have been times when he has been given permission to board and give out Bibles or other literature.  Small shoe boxes have been prepared with items inside as gifts for the shipmen’s wives.  Pray God will use the words, literature, Bibles and gifts for not only the sailors and their families, but that God’s love would spread to these foreign countries as well.

First Baptism at Ngowane!

First Baptism at Ngowane!

Monica & Steve from Swaziland share:

The new outreach at Ngowane had their first baptism! Four were scheduled to be baptized, but only one showed up. One was heavily pregnant and unable to be baptized at this service and another was prevented from coming by her husband. These are some of the challenges we face in leading and discipling new believers.

We’re entering volunteer teams/summer missionaries season for the next couple of months….bring on those that desire to serve with us in Swaziland…lives will be changed and God will move in mighty ways!

Come on!!!

Island Festivities

Island Festivities

New Year is celebrated several times by the various island cultures. One is called Cavadee, when many from the Tamil group try to obtain favor from the god Muruga (god of war). Through elaborate ceremonies the people engage in acts of devotion including carrying a Kavidi (burdens), piercing their bodies, and walking on shoes of nails or hot coals. All of this is done to gain the attention of their god.

In another festival, ~600,000 people walked from their homes up to a lake. Men, women and children, all dressed in white, from every nook and corner of the island, travel to the lake on foot, in a slow procession. On this journey of 20-30 miles, they carry on their shoulders, structures made of bamboo and decorated with paper streamers and tinkling bells. Upon reaching the lake they offer prayers to Shiva and then take some of the holy water home to use in celebrations and spiritual rituals, and to pour on the emblem of Shiva at the temple when they finish the long journey home.

As you can see, there is a great need for the Spirit of God to move in this place. We’re grateful for your efforts in prayer as these masses are our friends and neighbors who desperately need to know the true and living God.

Though there is so much spiritual darkness, we have seen God moving. Working with the young people, we have witnessed God raising up some men and women who love him and are committed to seeing God’s glory changing the lives of their generation.

Just before Christmas we were able to participate in a live performance with one goal, to proclaim the mighty love of God that came to us at Christmas so long ago. Over 500 people came to hear the message!

Pray for Ron and his students as they finish up this term at NETS. Pray that the students will be able to put into practice the things they have learned in their respective ministries.

Pray for Ron as he organizes the logistics for the volunteer team that will be arriving in June from Eastern Heights Baptist Church. Pray also for wisdom as he explores options for others who are interested in partnering with us here in Namibia.

New Antaimoro Believers in Madagascar

New Antaimoro Believers in Madagascar

FBC Orlando has partnered with Team SE Madagascar to reach the unreached Antaimoro for Jesus Christ. In this first trip to the Antaimoro, one member of the FBC Orlando group said, “work with the Antaimoro is incredibly hard (there are so many dirt roads and paths that lead to lost people) and easy at the same time (if we can just get there and share the truth, they will be ready to receive it.) The group left Madagascar with plans to return and with hearts rejoicing over the salvation of Silvia, Lucia and Nivo. Silvia and Lucia already followed in believer’s baptism. The team is also excited to return and work in 2 villages near Manakara where they found no believers but were invited to return and teach God’s Word. Pray for this partnership and pray for the Antaimoro that thousands would follow the example of Silvia and Nivo, these new baptized believers.

THE BIG FISH

THE BIG FISH

Remember our “Big Fish” story?  Well, we’ll call him S, and he’s actually a very little man with a big heart.  F has now begun to teach and disciple him.  This is our first known convert on the island, and we are just rejoicing in God’s work in this man’s life.  He came to our church for the first time this past Sunday, and had to ask beforehand, “What is a church?”  We are constantly being reminded here how little the name of Jesus is heard and taught.  He loves to sing, and enjoyed being in a group of Christian believers singing and learning God’s Word.  As I looked over at S in church, I was overcome with tears.  GOD HAS DONE A NEW WORK IN THIS MAN”S LIFE, AND HE’S ALLOWED US TO BE A PART OF  IT.  That reality really touched me.

F will continue to disciple S every week, and we are praying that much fruit comes from this man’s life.

Will you continue to pray for him?

2000+ ZULU Baptists

2000+ ZULU Baptists

2000+ Zulu Baptists gathered together at KwaMashu for the annual Easter Conference that ran from Good Friday through Easter Sunday.   Our church at UmhlatuzeVillage was publicly recognized during the Saturday afternoon service.  The church was greatly encouraged by this support.

PRAYER ITEM: We are looking to start a new work in the Somotho area.  Pray that a school headmaster will grant permission to do a True Love Waits Rally with 10 weeks of follow-up Bible Studies.  Pray we will also be granted a room to use at the school for Sunday services.  Please pray that if this is where God wants us to go, that the doors will open and the way will be clear.

Islamic Center

Islamic Center

Joe is now teaching at the Islamic Center twice a week and is free to share God’s Word there. He is also able to use a lot of his counseling skills since the classes are centered around helping those in a rehabilitation program. Please pray for him as he shares and teaches.

We also praise the LORD for a new Bible study starting among our people group. Please pray for its growth and ask the Father for guidance.

The Boy Left Behind

The Boy Left Behind

Todd & Deborah share about a 12-year-old boy whose family had saved money for him to accompany his brothers to the national Easter services. When a relative did not arrive to care for a sick nephew in the home, the family decided this 12-year-old boy must stay behind to care for his sick nephew. Todd desired to use it as an opportunity to talk with him and hopefully guide him a step closer to Biblical manhood. Todd took him to KFC (a real treat for this 12 year old boy which brought a huge smile from him and his mother) and they had their talk about being a Godly man. It was an experience neither would forget.

May 5 and 26:  Todd and Deborah lead youth and women’s meetings at Big Bend Baptist Church.  Please pray for wisdom in their teaching.

Pray for Barbara of the Swazi Team, as she leads two regional ladies retreats:

  1. 10-12 May – Shiselweni Association Ladies Retreat .
  2. 17-19 May – Lubombo North Association Ladies Retreat .
