 ABOUT THE TEAM:

The DUET team works alongside existing Baptist churches and other great commission Christian groups in the metropolitan areas of Durban and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa to reach some 4.5 million South Africans and internationals with the truth of the message of God’s redeeming love through Jesus Christ. Work in and through existing church structures is augmented with innovative community and social efforts. This includes but is not limited to working with community empowerment courses, economic stimulus initiatives, basic community health and HIV/ AIDS programs, educational assistance efforts among students at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, and interactions with holiday makers who flood Durban as a vacation spot. Our Urban environs include millions of Zulus, immigrants from across Africa, more than a million Indians from Hindu and Muslim backgrounds, South African whites, South African Coloureds and an increasing number of Chinese.

The challenge we face daily is to continue to use multiple numbers of creative and traditional formats to communicate the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in ways that allow God to speak and change lives for the glory of His Kingdom.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

1. The AIDS crisis of Southern Africa has left many families without an income provider. Christians and churches are surrounded by thousands of people facing basic human needs (food, shelter, medical care) as well as students needing to pay fees for schooling and find basic employment. As local Christians seek to demonstrate the love of Christ in this environment, ask God to provide the resources and wisdom needed day by day to demonstrate His presence among His people.

2. The majority of the population of South Africa is under the age of 20 years old. Communicating the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in ways that are relevant to children and youth calls for continual energy and creativity. Ask the Father to continue to raise up individuals who can and will communicate with the youth of the nation in ways that draw them to the love of Christ.

3. God’s word to His people remains the key to knowing Him. Ask God to continue to multiply the number of home groups, life groups, bible reading groups and discovery groups in the city that allow people to hear His word in ways that they can understand it, interact with it and obey it to the best of their ability.
